The Arenal Volcano in Costa Rica is located in the district of La Fortuna, canton of San Carlos, Alajuela province. The volcano has a height of 1670m.a.s.l. and it is located in the Arenal Volcano National Park. Its activity began on July 29th, 1968 at 7:30. Since then, gases and water vapor are steadily emitted along with some pyroclastic material explosions; sometimes with strong rumble. All this and its frequent activity make this volcano the most active in Costa Rica.

The Poas Volcano National Park covers 65 km (16.000 acres) approximately; its maximum height is 2,708 m.a.s.l. One of its main attractions is its easy access although in 2009 the earthquake left only a few roads available. The volcano is located within the Conservation Area of the Central Volcanic Range. The main crater is 300m deep and has a diameter of 1 mille approx., the largest geyser-like crater (1) and one of the largest craters (2) in the world. It is currently active with small gas emissions and an acid pond.

Besides its activities as a theater and programmed functions, it is currently a tourist attraction with guided tours every hour on weekends because of its neoclassical architecture. To support this, the theater has a small cafe and a souvenir store.
